The site is situated on the borderline forest steepe and steepe zone, on the high right bank of Vorksla river to the north of Poltava city. The bank territory is dissected with abundant balka's with 2-3% slopes (u-shape valleys). The experimental plot was founded on a plateau part with 0,5-1% slope. Before the experimentation was in arable use.
